This is a good mower, except for the handle. Tag is not very well structured. It is very thin and just literally burst into his second season.

quiet & odorless mowing
The quiet and odorless mowing that this simple machine offers far outweighs the few weeds that it is unable to cut on a single pass. I also like that it doesn't throw grass onto the patio, garden and the side of my house. Furthermore, It does not kick up dust and debris into the air and in open windows which then also reduces allergies. Now, I can avoid the terrible smell of gasoline, and I can talk to my neighbors while I mow! It's Great!!!

a lot of fun!
although the mower gets stuck whenever it meets small branches laying in the grass, I still enjoy it a lot! I am proud and happy to know it doesn't need any fuel or power, I like that it doesn't make much noise, and I like that it is a mild work out (I'm average 35-year old female). I hope you can tell from my review if this mower is for you or not (it has several levels to cut the grass).

Faster and easier to push than our old mower!
We live in upstate New York, and have been using an electric rechargeable mower with battery. While I love the rechargeable, we accidentally left it plugged in charging while on vacation and fried the battery. (It unfortunately doesn't use a trickle charger, so you have to remember to unplug it.) I have a friend down south who cuts St. Augustine grass with a reel mower, so I thought I'd try one on our very fine, soft grass. To my surprise it was even easier to push than the battery mower (which weighs a fair amount). Normally it takes me (a female) an hour to mow the front and back yards, and with the reel mower, it took an hour including assembly time! What I consider "high" grass for our area at 5-6 inches--it had no trouble with. Our electric mower would sometime bog down if the grass got that high and we'd have to mow at a higher level and then go back to cut it shorter. The reel mower didn't miss a beat! I highly recommend you try one!

The mower that grows on you
The trick to making this easier to use is to, if possible, mow in a clockwise pattern. You see, this mower ejects cut grass towards its left. If you mow in the conventional pattern i.e from one end of your lard to the other and then back again, you wil on every alternate pass, end up heaping cut grass in your cutting path. Reel mowers, by nature, require some effort to push, and the extra debris in the cutting path make life harder.
By following the suggested pattern, you make the job significantly easier.
That apart, this mower seems to cut bermuda grass better than st. augustine (my front yard is bermuda, ..and my shadier backyard is st. augustine), ..even though it actually cuts through the coarser bladed st. augustine a bit easier.
My fave thing about this mower is that I mow at night, after dinner, ..and don't waste my Saturday mornings on lawn mowing chores.

Exactly what I was hoping for.
Yes, you often do need to go over the lawn in at least two different directions, and yes, anything that is too tall will just get pushed over and not cut, but otherwise this is a safe, enjoyable tool to use. Great construction, great directions, great price.

Easy work, cheap, eco-friendly, great cutter!
I got soo sick of gas mowers and the gas, oil changes, spark plugs, air filters, yadda frigging yadda! Boring! So I took a run at this little guy and have been LOVING LIFE ever since. Man, why in the hell did we ever get suckered into huge gas burning, noisy, stinky, heavy pains in the ass?? For a golf course or professional lawn service company, or if you have 1/2 an acre or more to mow, it makes sense for power.
My concerns about "harder work" were quickly allayed once I began using it. It is no more work than my erstwhile Honda 5.5 hp self-propelled, and probably less. I probably wouldn't recommend the grass catcher though. You can cut wet grass with this thing and it does a great job. Get one and you'll never look back.

Had another brand, can't remember which one, but this one is fantastic because it's so easy to change the height.
Easy to push too, just glides along.
I love the sound of a reel mower. Love that it doesn't stink of gas. Two of my neighbors are going to get one now. Both of their mowers are on the fritz. Starting a fad.
My great grandfather introduced me to reel mowers, he would let me 'help'. I think of him every time I mow the lawn. Thanks to him a 1/3 of the block will be retro by midsummer! Interestingly we're all women. All the gas mowers will be guys. ;^)

Scotts Reel Lawn Mower is Great
This is the second manual reel mower that I have purchased. The first was a 7-blade American mower which had a hard time getting though my soiza and I had to make 3 passes to get the job done. I replaced it with my Scotts 20 inch reel mower. It has 5 blades and a 20" reel which is wider that the first mower. But it cuts easier and much more evenly. Where I have the thickest growth I cut about half a reel width at a time so that I effectively make two cuts to get a great looking lawn. On thinner parts a single pass does great. It pushes much easier and I cut the lawn in about half the time.
I'v only had it for about 6 weeks, so do not know how long it will go between sharpening or adjustment, but so far Its just as it came out of the box. I attached the handle and started mowing.
I enjoy the manual mower. No gas, no oil, never hard to start. Its quiet and I enjoy the outdoor sounds of nature and exchanging greetings with passing neighbors while I'm mowing.
